We Stand with the LGBTQIA+ Community

Los Angeles LGBT Center 

The Los Angeles LGBT Center cares for, champions, and celebrates the LGBT community through programs, services, and global advocacy that focus on the four broad categories of health, social services and housing, culture and education, and leadership and advocacy.

Meet Robbie, a client of the Los Anegeles LGBT Center who grew up unsupported by their parents in Kansas City. Seeking refuge from such a hostile environment, Robbie moved to Los Angeles and soon began experiencing homelessness. However, Robbie shortly came into contact with the center after calling the number on the stickers that decorate the inside of many phone booths around Los Angeles. Robbie shares how the center and their newfound freedom of self impacted their life, “That’s what the LGBT Center means to me, being able to really express yourself.”

Ali Forney Center 

The Ali Forney Center is a New York based program dedicated to saving and supporting the lives of LGBTQ+ youth, providing protection and prevention of homelessness and the advocacy and resources necessary for independent living.

Meet Maria, a client of the Ali Forney Center who ran away from home shortly before graduating high school due to rising concerns of violence within the home after her father saw her holding hands with another girl. After months of homelessness, Maria came into contact with the Ali Forney Center where she has been provided mental health counseling and psychiatric care. The Ali Forney Center is committed to embracing Maria to provide housing, guidance, and love throughout her healing journey.

SAGE USA

SAGE USA is a national organization that supports and cares for LGBTQ+ elders through community programs and companionship, housing resources, education and training, advocacy efforts and more.

Meet Barbara, a client of SAGE USA who lost their partner to dementia and cancer. As Barbara struggled what to do next following their partner’s passing, SAGE stepped in to support Barbara as they mourned. When reflecting back on the support the organization provided, Barbara expresses, “They took care of everything. I take care of them but they take care of me too.”
